REVIEW-OF EARTH AND SUN-UNCOILED-CD

OF EARTH AND SUN-UNCOILED-CD
MALIGNANT RECORDS-TUMORCD87
DARK AMBIENT/DRONE DOOM/DEATH INDUSTRIAL/EXPERIMENTAL SOUNDSCAPES
COMES IN A FOUR PANEL DIGI-PACK
OF EARTH AND SUN IS:
MATTHEW HUNZEKER:
BONE TRUMPETS/VOCALS/DRUMS/OSCILLATORS

I.) ANTAHKARANA / II.) CONSUMING OF THE ILLUSORY BODY /
III.) VEIL OF ILLUMINATION / IV.) INDUCTION /
V.) OFFERING OF THE SEVEN LIMBS / VI.) COILED /
VII.) CONSOLATRIX AFFLICTORUM / VIII.) WALK OF THE BLACK
SNAKE (UNCOILED) / IX.) MARRIAGE OF THE FORCES:

It is amazing what a person can accomlish with a limited set up when
they know how to use and effectively utilize what they have to work with.
Matthew Hunzeker AKA OF EARTH AND SUN does this on a masterful level.
Aided only with a drum machine, ocillators, hand carve bone trumpets
and his own voice, Hunzeker manages to create some of the most hauntingly
soothing and smotheringly terrifying music at the same time.A sound that
is ritualistic, spiritual, awe inspiring and primal all at once. Each track
is recorded live in one take, with no over-dubs or studio fuckery. His debut
full-length "Uncoiled" shows him pretty much operating in two gears.Ultra
dense drones with minimal drum beats...And ultra dense drones that stand
on their own.The sound is a fluid blend of electronic and organic instrumentation
that sorta sounds like a combination of THEOLOGIAN and FUNERARY CALL.Occult energy
flows through these sounds like a powerful river and will charge the atmosphere of
any room these songs inhabit."Antahkarana" opens the album with an eerie resonance
that expands like the sun rising over an open panorama.Grand trumpet blasts joined
by what appears to be deep vocal chants hit hard with a sudden loud burst of suspence
and then the drums begin to pound sending us into a deep rhythmic groove.Howling sounds
rise overhead.I am not entirely sure what is being used to create them but the sound is
unreal.Metaphysical energy in motion.Additional textures appear and entwine themselves
like a golden knot around the track.Obscured horns groan through the dreary dirge as
ashen hazes of noise spin in a cycle to contain everything else within.Everything is
a mass of expanding power.Truly some of the most unique stuff I've ever heard in this
genre."Consuming of the Illusory Body" follows and sets us into that other "gear" I
was talking about.Trumpets bleat in a slow, mournful manner.Miserable stuff like being
lost in the blistering heat of an endless desert. The sounds reverberate off of the
inner walls of your ears and hum like strange insects.Quiet choirs and synth ambiance
populate the open areas keeping everything tightly wound together.Drones blend together
like the water-like waves of heat on a distant highway.Music for nomads and vagabonds.
The vocals are hard to describe but come as beastly chants through inhuman effects.
Long wails are heard and kind of remind me of DEAD CAN DANCE in a way.The sound is
oddly spiritual.Additional horns and vocals form new layers towards the end that
are almost melodic at times."Veil of Illumination" slowly stirs to life as brooding
synths and vocal passages come together as one like smoke from burning inscence. It
sounds like a sacred ritual in progress and in many ways that is just what it is.
Mid-tempo kick drums begin to stomp as the trumpets sound off like something out
of Revelations. The type of stuff you'd hear accompanying a viking army as they
prepare to rain down Hell from the hillside. The intensity of this record is
staggering. The tones are so rich and warm that they flow like blood from
lacerated veins. The weight of this track is utterly crushing. Most of the
tracks are in the seven to nine minute range. The album as a whole at just
under seventy minutes...So it is one to immerse yourself in."Induction"
is the shortest piece at around five minutes and serves as an intermission of sorts.
Very low and very deep drones loom like pregnant storm clouds and windswept patterns
trace through as if following a cavernous trail.Horns fill the air and behave like wailing
guitar leads. What I think is filtered vocals adds an disturbing and agonized feeling to the
track. This loops and morphs like a spirit cursed to relive the same cruel fate for an eternity.
"Offering of the Seven Limbs" is probably my favorite track here.Like the rest of the album it
rises slow like a Lovecraftian deity awakening after aeons of dreamless slumber. The sound is
full to the point that it takes on an orchestral quality. The fact that this was all done by
one man in one shot is fucking amazing.Bass drum rhythms pound out in an almost tribal fashion.
Like the stuff you'd hear at a Mayan temple as some poor fucker is being dragged up the temple
steps to be sacrificed to the Gods.Sub-sonic bass tones quake below and the voices of several
grief stricken spirits haunt overhead. The various layers become one fluid entity that dances
like a fire elemental with the patrons of an ancient feast in it's name.A perfect soundtrack
for your next ritual murder."Coiled" comes on wavy drones that move like a ship rocking in a
near motionless ocean.Sweeping sounds come in like a blinding mist and subside. This sounds
like ancient stuff at times. The combination of modern and primitive instrumentation is pretty
damn cool. This is also very "visual" stuff that will cause you to daydream all sorts of
wonderfull and terrible things."Consolatrix Afflictorum" is the longest track here.Dense
drones and growling beasts are heard with repetitive rhythms and bone horns that almost
sound like a strange cover of some forgotten free jazz piece.Haunting choir-like vocals
with an almost Native American feel to them rise as semi-distorted textures do what they
will.It sounds like a shaman in a fevered, ritualistic trance performing sacred ceremonial
rites. What I think is wailing vocals in the distance add a beautifully sad tone to it all.
Music for mystics and magicians."Walk of the Black Snake (Uncoiled)" builds on drums that
sound like an axe chopping wood as if someone is hastefully fashioning a weapon or tool
of some sort.Disorienting lead notes soar over thick ambiance and echo through the energy
created herein.Once again there is a very shamanic, almost Native American vibe coursing
through the song. This one stays pretty consistant for the most part with subtle changes
here and there. It's great stuff anyway you look at it.The title "Marriage of the Forces"
probably sums up this record better than I ever could. This final invocation takes us into
thundering low frequency sounds that mimick hoove beats as wild stalions gallop across a
distant mountainside.Cold winds float like steam over natural hotsprings and a howling
"voice" vibrates straight into your bones.Dense rhythmic noise and muffled percussions
rumble like rushing water beneath the earth's surface as it makes it's way up.Pure
pressure and intensity in full swing.Similar to parts of the debut album from SKORNEG.
All in all this album is powerful stuff. If the debut is this good then I can't wait
for releases to come.

ONE OF THE MOST UNIQUE DEBUT RELEASES OUT THERE RIGHT NOW.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:

REVIEW-ABJECTION RITUAL-SELF TITLED-CDR

ABJECTION RITUAL-SELF TITLED-CDR
SELF RELEASED
POWER ELECTRONICS/DEATH INDUSTRIAL/HARSH NOISE
COMES IN A THIN TRANSPARENT ENVELOPE WITH
TWO INSERTS.LIMITED TO 50 HAND-NUMBERED COPIES.

I.) THOUGHT HOSTAGE:
This is the debut release from ABJECTION RITUAL and a great
start to a fairly new project. The first of two releases so
far.Our introduction to the psychological terror of ABJECTION
RITUAL's music comes in the form of this thirty minute e.p. that
opens with "Thought Hostage" where we experience shifting dense
currents and distorted, corrosive bursts of deep static.Rhythms
are formed in a pattern like heavy breathing which leads us into
ultra thick and heavy synth drones wrapped in powerful distortion
with a strange melodic quality.Bells ring as if to say dinner is
served at the banquet table of the lowest ring of Hell and vicious
vocals come in distorted yet intelligible phrases.Processed and
harsh, yet still the lyrics are clearly decipherable. The overall
tone to the vocals is similar to a "Power Violence" style.Agressive
and in your face.Blasts of steaming static spray out in the background
as metallic percussive layers and craftfully manipulated feedback add
additional textures and ambiance. The sound is totally hostile and very
uncomfortable. It sounds like ABJECTION RITUAL has come to kick your ass.
And that is exactly what he does on much of this album.

II.) WASTREL:
Track two opens with harsh industrial percussions in a slow destructive
stomp followed by hazy drones and disorienting layers of feedback and
horror ambiance. The vocals are deep grunts ran through reverb and delay.
A little "cleaner" this time, but still with an overall Power Violence
feel to them. The lyrics paint a picture of grim reality.Everything that
can go wrong in one's life is mentioned as we are reminded of just how
bad it can be.Metallic grinding, scraping and screeching fills this piece
and once again gives it a "Horror score" sort of vibe.Towards the end the
vocals come in heavily processed screams that echo in rapid fire assaults.
Feedback squeals but never becomes too shrill to the point it's annoying.
Additional high end frequencies are also present which gives the track
movement and growth. So far this release is interesting to say the least.

III.) PAINTED WOMB:
low pulsing drones under high end feedback.Disturbing samples and anxiety
inducing noises in timed intervals. The feedback is a constant here and gives
this a 90's Power Electronics vibe.Distant Death Industrial percussive elements
create a sinister atmosphere to keep things grim and despondent. The vocals are
highly treated rasps burried beneath spinning bursts and wet phaser effects.
Cascading rivers of static and high frequency electronic signals come through
filters similar to those used on the vocals. So far this is probably the most
punishing track but also the slowest and eeriest work on the album.

IV.) HAUNTED TO DISTRACTION:
I may have spoke too soon. This may be the most eerie and creepy song so far.
Sub-bass drones hum and pur like a diesel engine as computerized industrial
voices recite obscurred passages.Squeaking metallic sounds pierce the air as
deep, down-tuned voices mumble and mutter in the background. There is a lot
of vocal experimentation here which truly does give the track a "Haunted"
quality.Similarities can be drawn to acts like STEEL HOOK PROSTHESIS or
maybe even ADERLATING at times.Creaking object abuse and additional sounds
in this manner give this a "Hospital" or "Asylum" type of atmosphere.Either
way it sounds like you just spent around six minutes in a private haunted
Hell.A place filled to the rafters with tormented and anguished souls that
all have a story to tell and all want to be heard at once.

V.) A BODY AGAINST ITSELF:
The last one builds on dense dark ambiance and strange grinding tones that
sound like manipulated recordings of hallow metal pipes as they lightly thump
upon a cold hard surface.Whispered vocals echo as dreary waves of feedback and
other horror-esque sounds fill the piece.Loud bass kicks and wretched, distorted
rasps add even more variation to the vocal approaches on this release. This time
they have an almost Black Metal style feeling to them, So this is something like
"Blackened Death Industrial" on this one.Hissing whispers and surreal layers of
dreamy or rather nightmarish ambiance fill the spaces between the pummeling and
pounding of the mighty bass drums until all slowly fades into silence.

DEFINATELY NOT A BAD START FOR THE PROJECT.RECOMMENDED FOR FANS OF:
ADERLATING/DEATHSTENCH/GNAWED/ODOUR SONOUR/STEEL HOOK PROSTHESIS/

REVIEW-GNAWED/SWOLLEN ORGANS-SPLIT-CASSETTE

GNAWED/SWOLLEN ORGANS-SPLIT-CASSETTE
DANVERS STATE RECORDS/DSR60
POWER ELECTRONICS/DEATH INDUSTRIAL/HARSH NOISE
COMES IN A PLASTIC CASE WITH INSERT.
ON BLACK CASSETTE WITH BAND LOGO STICKERS.
GNAWED IS:
GRANT RICHARDSON
SWOLLEN ORGANS IS:
JIMMY ALLY
COVER ART BY:
NORA EGLOFF (SPITEFUL WOMB)

SIDE A.) GNAWED:
I.) LEFT HAND / II.) SHINE:
Two well established forces in the scene team up to bring us one hell of
a listen.First off is the furious power house known as GNAWED with two
slabs of murky aggression.Listening to this is like being forced under
water and strangled until everything goes as black as the heart of your
attacker."Left Hand" kicks it off with a slow build up of dense droning
and icy ambiance.Powerful drones rise and fall as metallic scraping and
squealing begins to climb out of the brooding ambiance.Harsh vocals lash
out like clawed hands tearing at anything they can in a blind rage.Slight
touches of feedback is heard hovering in patters like the flight of moths.
Sub-bass churning and synths like trumpets of war blend in a deadly waltz
as bitter versus are spit in your direction.A haunting resonance like a
spectral choir is heard drifting through the piece as unknown objects clang,
grind and drag upon a floor that is probably caked with dried blood. The whole
track seems to hang in the air like a rotten smell until it finally dissolves.
"Shine" soon takes it's place and prooves that what came before was just a
taste of horrors to come.Immense industrial percussions and careless rhythms
are formed from what sounds like someone thrashing around a room filled with
all kinds of junk and garbage.Humming synths drone as others sweep through
and sound like hornets in a slow ascent to a buzzing hive.Heavy bass tones
pool underneath and begin to move in a pattern similar to man made waves in
a water tank. The vocals are heavily filtered and come in phased out sentences
soaked in wet effects.Like bile bubbling in a corroded drain. The atmosphere
of the A side is uncomfortable all the way through.Pulsing drones are ran
through ENV filters or something similar and run on as the percussive elements
grow in volume and intensity. We end with slamming metallics and a sinking feeling
in our guts.

SIDE B.) SWOLLEN ORGANS:
III.) TEARS AND SPERM / IV.) THINNER:
Next SWOLLEN ORGANS proves once again to be a force to be reckoned with.I swear,
everytime I hear a new release from this guy it's even better than the one before
it, and after the last few I've had the privillage of reviewing...That's saying
something."Tears And Sperm" from the title alone shows us that Jimmy Alley has
thrown all subtlety out the fucking window and isn't about to sugarcoat shit so
you can only imagine how it's going to sound...Or I could tell you...A fog bank
of heavy ambiance floods the room accompanied by high frequency pulses and cranking
noise under the heavy use of wet effects.Samples are employed and depict a woman crying
in total agony.Scrap metal percussions and unnatural heart beats join in and add to her
suffering.Warped signals play underneath as everything becomes more and more frantic.
Shovels dig fresh graves as the lies bound and forced to watch. Her panicked screams
only confirming her fate.At this point it sounds like someone has tossed the bitch in
an industrial sized trash compactor and flipped the switch.Crunching, scraping, harsh
madness...Then only her tears and gasping remain.Looks like she survived...For now.
"Thinner" hits hard with heavy drones that put the power into electronics.Shrill
frequencies screach as raspy vocals through reverb come in echoing threats and
condemnations.I can truly say that this is brutal stuff.Music that chooses to
punish rather than entertain.About midway everything cuts out and a lone verse
is screamed in a spiteful rage which leads us to a burning field of glitching
drones and heavy synth saws.High frequency destruction reigns overhead and
sounds off like a mind numbing beacon of annihilation.Sharp sounds cut the
air and slice at the ears and a chemical cloud of white noise comes like a
fine mist of pesticide over the soundscapes below.Washed out waves of static
pummel the shores below as vocals rise like an ascent up a jagged cliff. This
time they are much more processed and take on a sort of robotic, cyborg kind
of quality. They increase in volume until the last line and all falls silent.

BOTH ARTISTS DELIVER HERE.DEFINATELY GET A COPY OF THIS ONE.

REVIEW-THE VOMIT ARSONIST-ONLY RED-CD

THE VOMIT ARSONIST-ONLY RED-CD
MALIGNANT RECORDS-TUMORCD77
DEATH INDUSTRIAL/POWER ELECTRONICS/HARSH AMBIENT
COMES IN A SIX PANEL DIGI-PACK WITH AN EXCERPT
FROM "THE CONSPIRACY AGAINST THE HUMAN RACE"
BY: THOMAS LIGOTTI
THE VOMIT ARSONIST IS:
ANDREW GRANT

I.) CHOICE / II.) ONLY RED / III.) NOTHING MATTERS (Lyrics taken from the Hank Williams
song "It Just Don't Matter Now") / IV.) IT JUST IS / V.) I'M NOT FINE /
VI.) NO ONE CAN HELP YOU / VII.) UNWELCOME PEACE / VIII.) GW (REDUX) (A Remix of the
track "Go Without" remixed by: Kristoffer Oustad):

Ok so this album seems to pick up where we left off with "An Ocassion For Death"
a couple years ago, Only this time it's all aggro. It seems like Andrew Grant has
spent those last couple of years baking in his own anger and aggression with "Only
Red" being his only release. This album is extremely heavy and dark as all Hell,
And when I say dark I mean a true darkness...Not some thin sounding, pre-pubescent
Post Black Metal bullshit, But rather, Dark in the way that the human is flawed,
bitter and full of hatred.Truly Misanthropic music. The level of unease invoked by
listening to this record is unreal.I didn't think that anyone would top the debut
album from UNITED FRONT, "By All Means" (Which Andrew Grant contributed vocals to.)
In terms of grim and gritty terror in a real and logical sense...But Andrew Grant
has at the very least created a record that is right along with it if not even more
terrifying.I always love it when an artist can transport the listener into another
world...But here that world is a bleak and barren apocalyptic landscape paved in
dry blood and crusted bile.A place where entering will stir something within you
that would've been better off in an eternal slumber. It begins with "Choice" where
we are greeted by a slow rising ambiance like smoke swirling around the sounds of
industrial wreckage.Creaking metals and gaseous waves of dense sub-bass that pushes
air out of your speakers like an A.C. on full blast.Stomping percussions come in a
hard, mid-tempo death rattle as the ambiance grows and shouted, processed vocals
lash out like knives jabbing at your face. The density is intense and overwhelming
unlike anything I have ever experienced. So deep and heavy that it rattles your skull.
Everything seems to grow louder as the track continues until it feels like a vice grip
clamping around your head with immense force and pressure. The title track "Only Red"
is simple.Total aggression that boils and oozes like a toxic chemical. It begins in a
similar manner as the previous track but a little more chaotic and wreckless as metal
is carelessly slammed across metal and deep, dark ambiance rolls out and slowly recoils
like a restless serpent.High end ringing rises out of the haze, quickly followed by
corroded industrial rhythms that sound like falling boulders chipping away at the
landscape as they roll to crush all in their path. The lyrics are violent, enraged
and delivered as such.Hostile rasps forced through a throat filled with debris and
gravel.Slow and calculated like a pre-meditated murder.The soundtrack to a bloodsoaked
night of revenge.Once again the intensity is mind numbing as is pretty much the case
throughout the entire record."Nothing Matters" which is a very loose Hank Williams
cover oddly enough begins with quaking bass drones and hissing breaths that sound
like negative forces gathering and manifesting as a living entity. What sounds like
the rattling of thick power lines in the wind is heard right before a barrage of
ultra dense bass drums in an absolutely crushing mid-tempo assault.Screams seem
to come from all directions and swarm around your head in a furious frenzy. There
are quite a lot of layers in the mix but they all blend into a solid slab like
cement bricks stacked upon your chest. In other words, this will smother you.
"It Just Is" sweeps in on hazzardous winds filled with inhuman voices.Distorted
noise like the crackling of fire fills in the empty spaces. What sounds like the
panic of swine in a slaughterhouse adds an eerie atmosphere and then those drums
kick in again.Loud and harsh like iron doors being slammed in a slow, foreboding
rhythm.Secondary rhythms create an almost tribal vibe. The most primal state of man
stripped bare and exposed like the violence of a crucifixion in the downtown area
of a modern city.Disgusted and fed-up vocals tell it like it is without holding back
until the echoes of their message are all that remains."I'm Not Fine" arrives on some
of the deepest drones I have ever heard, accompanied by harsh distorted patterns and
then BOOM! Drums like giant hammers on a rampage across the countryside roll in like
thunder. The vocals come quick and lash out over ringing feedback in timed succession.
Longer screams hang over like a black hand of death over a small town, Ready to come
in and suffocate the life out of every resident.Phasers and other filters are applied
to the vocals and give them an effect like a swarm of insects come to collect in a
carrion banquet.A final scream stretches out and then all fades into debris and dust.
"No One Can Help You" is a tidal mass that floods out over grinding machines and
rumbling bass quakes.Distortion dances on the horizon and loud, muffled screams
come in deep tones like the voices of monolithic monsters stirring from the depths
of the ocean. This is the most dense track by far and that is quite an accomplishment.
Shrieking winds cry like banshees as anxious electronic patterns float like glowing
insects.Shrill feedback and electric pulses fill the air as everything builds like
a volcano preparing to rain down in a glorious display of molten hell fire."Unwelcome
Peace" opens with traditional Death Industrial style ambiance and bellowing synths
that sound like downtuned horns signaling war.Clean ambiance radiates like dim light
through a thick covering of trees as shifting sounds and reversed winds surround.
Weird wet sounds and clanging pipes create the atmosphere with all the comfort of
a Saw or Hostel movie.Pure cold Death Industrial at it's finest."GW (Rdx)" is a
remix of the title track from THE VOMIT ARSONIST's album Go Without.Re-constructed
by Kristoffer Oustad who is mostly known for his contributions with KRISTOFFER
NYSTROMS ORKESTER, but after the release of his debut album "Filth Haven" on
Malignant records has been recieving a lot of praise for his solo works as well.
Here he strips this track bare and rebuilds it into a total disaster.Everything
is amped up and in your face. The vocals are pure fury over a charred soundscape
of ash and decay.Kristoffer Oustad's addition of soaring synth frequencies create
even more intensity then I would have thought possible.A perfectly brutal way to
close the record and a demonstration of Oustad skills. This is a man that not only
understands this music, but also knows what he's doing.By the time this album finishes
you will be wrecked.

IN TERMS OF BRUTALITY...A NEW BAR HAS BEEN RAISED:

REVIEW-MURDEROUS VISION-TO KNOW HOW IT WILL END-CASSETTE

MURDEROUS VISION-TO KNOW HOW IT WILL END-CASSETTE
DANVERS STATE RECORDS/DSR61
POWER ELECTRONICS/DEATH INDUSTRIAL/HARSH NOISE
COMES IN A PLASTIC CASE WITH INSERT AND LYRIC
SHEET.
ON PURE BLACK CASSETTE
MURDEROUS VISION IS:
STEPHEN PETRUS
VOCAL/LYRICS ON "TURPENTINE BLOOD"
BY: AMANDA HOWLAND

SIDE A.)
I.) RESENTMENT HAS WON / II.) TIDES:
This has got to be the most brutally violent MURDEROUS VISION release since
"Salvation On Sand Mountain." Stephen Petrus has once again made a departure
from his more ambient sytled work to bring us four tracks of harsh filth and
bloodsoaked aggression."Resentment Has Won" opens with the sounds of a crowded
room.A cacophony of voices surround you as if you have just stepped into a busy
cafeteria or meeting room.Everything is a blur as anxiety sets in and all becomes
a haze of loudness.Shouting, cheering and broken glass take over until the discomfort
of interracting with others becomes a black apparition cloaked in a blanket of dense
distortion.Chains rattle and steel pipes drag across cold cement floors.Slight touches
of creeping ambiance inject the piece with a sinister and depressing aura. The intensity
of the track builds like a snowball crashing downhill, Causing the room to feel alive
with electric negativity.Vocals come in harsh, pitch-shifted screams. Each verse soaked
in venom and out to assault you rather than entertain.Ferocious stuff that doesn't hold
back.Slow distorted rhythms come in tides of heavy static to carry you deep into an ocean
of hatred...After the barrage of track one we awake on some distant shore as "Tides" begins.
Seething drones and industrial clanging along with warped spoken word.Surges of electricity
pulse and buzz as whispered words are recited like a silent ghost story around a campfire.
Bone cold and mechanical music that will leave you feeling totally numb inside. The next
vocals come in bitter shouts in between the whispers. The music rises and drops to fit
the theme and add a dynamic backdrop for the story being told.Low chants and incantations
are heard like an invocation ritual to something better left unknown.Something lurks in
the tides and MURDEROUS VISION is about to set it loose on any who come near.

SIDE B.)
III.) COLLAPSING FROM WITHIN / IV.) TURPENTINE BLOOD:
Side B continues to fill our minds with despondency, dread and despair starting with,
"Collapsing From Within." Uneasy drones flow like diseased swamp water.Static and
electric energy surge along the murk as corroded rhythms grind their way in.The atmosphere
is one of complete hopelessness.A meditation in failure and regret.Powerfull currents of
audio blackness filled with spectral whispers and rasps.Music for nights of isolation and
self mutilation.A soundtrack for a suicide.Similarities can be drawn to artists like FUNERARY
CALL and DEATHSTENCH.Blackened, harsh ambient.A churning resonance rolls in and crashes heavily
upon you like a relentless storm at sea.High end frequencies lash out and vanish like lightening
striking in careless violence.Metallic pounding and moaning ambiance ends it and "Turpentine Blood"
begins with humming machinery and the soft spoken word of Amanda Howland. She speaks as if recalling
a memory along the backdrop of a dimly lighted institution. In other words, it comes across like a
"session" of sorts.Phantom whispers play around the room like the taunting of inner daemons.Musically
speaking, MURDEROUS VISION take the minimal route with this one which is very fitting and frames the
theme of the track perfectly. The ambiance seems to glow like a florescent light...Dull and dreary.
Not to say it's dull in a boring way but more of an eerie off-white room with a single chair and table.
Slight noise is applied for atmosphere and effect to keep things flowing in an uncomfortable and rest-
less stream.Deep drones and hissing effects bring everything to a close as the session ends until all
that remains is quietly scrapping noise.

STILL AND ALWAYS ONE OF THE REIGNING KINGS OF DEATH INDUSTRIAL AND DARK AMBIENT.AFTER OVER A DECADE
MURDEROUS VISION IS STILL A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH.RECOMMENDED FOR FANS OF THE BIRDCAGE THEATER,
WET NURSE,THE VOMIT ARSONIST,ABJECTION RITUAL,LIGATURE IMPRESSION,ETC ETC:

AN INTERVIEW WITH SAMANTHA VIOLA OF T.O.M.B., DREADLORDS AND SKULSYR

Samantha Viola is the newest member of the Occult Blackened Noise band T.O.M.B. and also a contributor THE DREADLORDS as well as the lone member of her project SKULSYR. Traumatic Static had the honor of questioning her about music, occultism and the dark world she dwells in. Continue below to read words that will shed a dim light on the shadows of the underground.

TRAUMATIC STATIC:
First off, Thanks for taking the time to speak with us
and share your insight into the darker corners of the
underground. How did you get involved with these styles of
music and sonic experimentation and what drew you to these depths?

SAMANTHA VIOLA:
I didn't really listen to much noise other than dark ambient before
I met the members of T.O.M.B. I was introduced to this black noise
chaos and I was never so amazed in my life. T.O.M.B. was all I listened
to for days... and then, not too long after, I saw them perform live. I
was entranced and didn't really have any words after the set was over.
Not even one month later, I was asked to be a part of this powerful occult
machine.. the first real noise band I had ever listened to.

TRAUMATIC STATIC:
How exactly did you get involved with T.O.M.B. And what was it that you
brought to the table that wasn't present before?

SAMANTHA VIOLA:
A couple members knew about me from mutual friends, but I just happened
to meet other members by chance. I was contacted because of the occult/ritual
stories that were being told about me.. and by speaking with a couple of the
members and talking about what I do and have done in the occult realm and my
personal musical background (I had played music on my own, but never as a band
and never recorded any material), I was brought into the group. I've been told
that I have the kind of occult abilities they had never came in contact with...
and since then have definitely proven those abilities more than we ever imagined.

TRAUMATIC STATIC:
Many artists use the Occult as a gimmick or a way
to look cool and appeal to rebellious teenagers. What
is it that separates you and your projects from the countless
others out there claiming to be Occult themed bands?

SAMANTHA VIOLA:
We take it seriously. We don't do anything lavish, and if we seem
to come off in a way that makes audiences think we're being theatrical,
then that's on the audience. The ritual we do is natural, raw, and unrehearsed.
The music itself will occasionally be the same way, but we do have to keep that
organized for various reasons. For example, when we play live, the last song we
do is always different.. when I step over to the drums and No One goes to his
tombstone, my drum beats are never the same twice.. his noise is always different..
we lose ourselves in the ritual and let it flow.. When I finish that last violent,
raw noise attack, I don't even remember what I had played. My personal life is engulfed
in the occult. My surroundings all have ritualistic significance.. Everything in my life
involves the occult... even work. I could go into specifics, but that could be a book in
itself. Those that know me would understand. Even stepping into my personal space could
do that. My band mates have their own similar ways. So, anyway... I'm not that into myself.
I don't hold myself above all. I do not think I'm the all powerful. None of us are egotistical...
but I can see when a band is using the occult as a "gimmick" or if they themselves think they're
the all powerful. I don't make a point to voice what I think... I let them do as they please
and carry on with my ways.

TRAUMATIC STATIC:
Being that so much Occult force is involved, How does working with projects
like T.O.M.B. and DREADLORDS differ from a traditional band setting?

SAMANTHA VIOLA:
Music flows more quickly when there is a ritualistic force behind it.
Being in both these bands is different than any musician could imagine
and more than we can comprehend ourselves. Our energy is one... and our
music is our energy.. You hear our music, and if you truly understand it,
you know us and know who/what we are.

TRAUMATIC STATIC:
You also record solo under the moniker SKULSYR,
What is it that you wish to convey with a solo
project that is seperate from the others you are
involved in? Would you consider a solo project
more ritualistic in way?

SAMANTHA VIOLA:
With Skulsyr, I can convey an energy that's all my own.
My most natural state is that of solitude. I've done my
best workings in the company of nothing but the earth and
the ancient powers that flow through it. My solo project has
even more ritualistic significance than that of the other two.
It is born of shamanic trance, nurtured in the deep, old earth,
and flourishes in the  rhythmic enchantment of its own creation.
There is still so much to come, as the project is in its infancy.
More sounds, more words, more explanations to come.

TRAUMATIC STATIC:
What does SKULSYR mean? Can you give us a definition?
My guess from how the words look would be something
like bone divination...maybe just because it looks like
"Skull Seer."

SAMANTHA VIOLA:
Skuld is a name of a Norn, and Syr is another name for the Goddess Freyja.
Both those entities, mostly what they symbolize, I deeply connect with..
on levels that I can't explain to most. The inspiration of the name came
from those two, but the two words together form something that engulfs my
being. Funny you say bone divination, because my runes are made from bone
and I divine from them. When you say the name.. it is pronounced Skull seer.
All of these meanings have a purpose. You've hit it pretty spot on.

TRAUMATIC STATIC:
The occult, magic and ritual have obviously aided in your musical career
in many ways. What's one of the best examples of the impact it's had for
your bandmates and yourself?

SAMANTHA VIOLA:
We usually keep our “secrets” to ourselves when it comes to this matter.
We have accomplished more within the first year or two of my initiation
than many bands accomplish in their career. I don’t mean to be overconfident
or arrogant at all; I’m actually still in awe about everything that has happened.
I always say that you can have the drive and the talent, but when you have the right
alchemical compound, you can create gold.

TRAUMATIC STATIC:
T.O.M.B. is known for unconventional recording methods and involving
the paranormal. What would you say to the skeptics out there who'd
claim that none of it is real? Do you think it makes it harder for
you guy's to be taken seriously as musicians?

SAMANTHA VIOLA:
When it comes to myself, I can laugh when people make those claims
because I'm physically in those places doing the recording, experiencing
the spiritual phenomena. We don't make up stories; we really don't need to.
Our reality is far more exciting than any tale. We aren't phased by those
who try to make us seem less "cool", because we don't see ourselves as such.
First, there is video evidence of what we do. Second, we don't go to these
locations to record just to make us sound more interesting. The haunting
echoes of these locations... the energies that can consume you and follow
you long after you leave... you can feel all of these things when you listen
to our work. It isn't just the way we manipulate our electronics... it's the
lingering ghosts of the location's past we've brought back with us.

TRAUMATIC STATIC:
What is it that ties it all together for you? Working with so
many individuals? Do you find that it is hard to keep up with
all the varying energies or do you find yourselves on the same
page more often than not?

SAMANTHA VIOLA:
We’re actually a pretty small group. 3 out of the 4 contributors
of T.O.M.B. are also in Dreadlords, so I only need to keep up with
three very powerful and intelligent beings. We all may have different
energies, but together ours seamlessly lock together to form “a force
to be reckoned with”, I suppose. I couldn’t ask for or even find more
fitting band mates. The fact that we work so well together that everything
comes naturally without much contemplation is why I am in allegiance to this group.
Not only are we on the same page, but we are writing the same words.

TRAUMATIC STATIC:
Thank you so much for your time Samantha.
Any final words to seal the "Tomb" ?

SAMANTHA VIOLA:
Be prepared for our upcoming release..
all the past rituals, the ravenous energies contained
in those incantations.. now we unleash the fury...
