I.) IN THE WAKE OF A DYING SUN:
From beneath an endless realm of decay we hear deep rumbles of
earth shattering sub-bass.Dense drones that expand and devour
the listener in a black embrace of pure negativity.There is a
certain "demo" quality in terms of how it is recorded but music
like this often suffers when it is too clean or polished.This is
the underground after all so it is to be expected if not welcomed.
This track creeps and crawls like slow moving fog.Thick and heavy.
Pitch black atmospheres yawn endlessly like the breath of a dying
earth escaping from jagged caverns in it's malnourished core.If you
are into blackened Drone Doom like BLACK BONED ANGEL, TENHORNEDBEAST,
or even some SUNN O))) then this should be right up your sinister and
twisted alley.The tracks here sound absolutely lifeless...Like a dripping
black liquid without form or reason, existing only to consume and keep
consuming.Churning bass guitar drones rise and decompose right before
your ears.Pure audio filth.
II.) THE BONE HOUSE:
Bone saws sing in haunting voices like a choir of daemons.Grinding
sounds like corroded blades on human bone fill the air along with
what sounds like inhuman entities breathing heavily.Deep drones
paint the room blacker than pitch as these ungodly ritualistic
activities play out.Disposal of what is left of a pile of human
carcasses after sacrifices to ageless beings.This is about as
unfriendly and hostile as music can get.Deep, downtuned whispered
vocals similar to LEVIATHAN or TREPENERINGSRITUALEN inject the air
with generous amounts of dread among the bloodshed.Ghostly wails of
tortured victims dance with shrill cries of utmost agony.It sounds
like you are a fly on the wall in a serial killers personal workspace.
The rustling of eager carrion can be heard growing in both volume and
anticipation.This seethes and creeps like black bile circling a drain.
One that is clogged and overflowing with human gore.It sounds like it
would smell like rot and incense if the place described in the title
were real...And A TASTE FOR DECAY make it seem and feel very real.
III.) CHARRED REMAINS:
It is hard to tell if it is synths, bass guitar or both that begin
this one.Either way they suck the air out of the room and weigh heavy
on your chest.Crushing black ambiance filled with strange whining noise.
Soft spoken whispers in a deadly serious tone can be heard but not comprehended.
The high pitched noise makes me imagine the slow movement of flames as the fire
winds down...With charred bone beneath licked clean of any meat.Mournful strings
play brief funeral dirges and then vanish all together.Somewhere in the distance
pounding metallic percussion's stomp and quake.Guitars arrive almost sounding like
an afterthought.Slow meditative drones picked on individual strings.What sounds like
a violin bow dragging across bass or piano strings joins the mix and gives this a
FUNERARY CALL sort of vibe.Imagine a collaboration between ADERLATING and DEATHSTENCH
created with EINSTURZENDE NEUBAUTEN's equipment and you'll have an idea of what A TASTE
FOR DECAY sounds like.The pace begins to pick up and the intensity starts to grow...Still
slow but more and more deadly with each passing moment.I've always preferred "disturbing"
or "unsettling" music and that is exactly what we have here with "Beneath Black Waters."
At times the backing percussion's sound like they were taken from an orchestra while a
horror score was being conducted.The kind of stuff best listened to alone and with the

Dripping water from rusted drain pipes...Daemonic voices swirl making this sound like
field recordings from the bile stained bowls of one of the deeper pits of Hell.Blackened
vocals come in bursts of static and white noise...Raping the senses and molesting the spirit.
Slow, dark and punishing in the most relentless manner.The recording quality is a little "worse"
on this particular track but for some of you that will be a plus.Vocals pass through veils of
reverb and delay on their way to assault you as even deeper voices moan and rumble like bowls
infected with some hideous and painful disease.A single high pitched frequency rings on forever
over violently shaking bass strings.A short stay in eternal suffering.
V.) APPROACHING FRESH THROATS:
The rain falls as malevolent spirits gather.Storm clouds roll in in the form of bass drones
as specters reach from the sky and go for the throat.Distorted whispers and horrid screams
tell tales of things better left unsaid as strange percussion's and scrap metal fuckery are
heard.Deep pulses like the rhythmic marching of an army approaching begins as ritual bells
chime and iron pipes are beaten with steel rods.Grown men scream in torment and fear as A
TASTE FOR DECAY make it perfectly clear they are here to take your life.This is some pretty
sadistic sounding stuff.These guys forsake harsh and go straight for grim.These are some of
the bleakest soundscapes you will hear.If you are into Darea Plantin's other projects: STEM
CELL RESEARCH PROJECT or DEATHSTENCH then you know what to expect and most certainly won't
be let down here.If you have ever read Dante's Inferno then just imagine what that experience
would sound like...That is pretty much what you get with A TASTE FOR DECAY...The crunching and
cracking of bones neath heavy foot steps as insidious creatures exhale their poison breath in
a seemingly endless rhythm...Bass work that brings to mind BURIAL CHAMBER TRIO or GRAVETEMPLE
and voices like those found on SUNN O)))'s "Black One" album...Some say art is suffering.A
TASTE FOR DECAY live it.
VI.) A CHILDHOOD LOST:
Field noise and swarming flies...Fragile chimes from a child's music box begin and it
starts to sound like a Hellraiser soundtrack...Not the most original idea but one that
seems to work well...Just something about childhood depicted in such a hopeless matter
seems to speak to man on a primal level...You know the death of innocence and all that
stuff.The voices of playing children are carried on the breeze but are nothing more than
a tear stained memory.A glimps at a time when hope was more than a delusion...At least in
the mind.This is a very visual track and a great representation of a classic theme but if
you are looking for originality then you will probably prefer the earlier tracks.Reversed
ambience plays along with the ghosts of happy children as what sounds like someone digging
through a box of old photographs can be heard.Heavy drones accompany this nice little walk
down memory lane and build on the theme of loss and tragedy.All in all a pretty cool track.
