I.) HIDDEN AGENDA:
If your new to BEREFT or your first experience with them was there
most recent tape...Keep in mind that this is an earlier album.Comparing
their work from here to now is a great way to see the evolution of a noise
band and an enoyable experience for the listener.Either way you can't go
wrong with anything they have done. From out of the silence come creeping
synths that have been lurking in wait.Suddenly, we are hit with a wall of static
and lo-fi synth drones.Ripping electronics guide you into distorted vocals with
a Black Metal edge that come at you with swirling feedback.Grinding noise with
an agenda to satisfy and terrify you at the same time.Uneasy rhythms that make
your stomach turn and induce a state of vertigo and anxiety close track one and
then we dive into the fifteen minute epic that is to follow.

II.) YOUR MESSIAH WILL FAIL:
Buzzing noise and rhythms that sound like they were created by slamming a hammer
against a humming electrical box.Strange sounds come at you from every direction like
unseen alien predators closing in on their kill.Deep vocals in a whirlwhind of daggers fly
at your face and slice you open with each strike.Your in for a long ride of suffering kids so
I hope you called your mothers and brought a change of pants.Gurgling electronic filth
circles the drain then vanishes.Steady rhythms carry you from one level of Hell into the
next.Corroded noise falls like acid rain stripping your flesh as BEREFT prepares to salt the
wounds and twist the knife. The "persuccions" from the beginning grow in volume as do the
vocals. Now they come a little clearer at times so you can hear the hate in the tone of Peter
Lee's voice.Down tuned and daemonic. There is a militant sort of vibe to the slow shambling
march of the tempo and the rapid fire noise assaults that come and go as they please.Harsh
high end noise and mind numbing feedback torture you like a POW on the wrong side of the
tracks.Crumbling distortion is heard as the world around you falls to oblivion.Welcome to a
Hell hole of ransack and radiation. You are now in the belly of the beast and it doesn't look
like the rescue time survived the last seven minutes so I guess your fucked. One thing that
seperates this album from much of the others from BEREFT is that this one seems to focus
on instrumental tracks.Even the tracks with vocals spend long periods of time in pure sound.
Buzzsaws and grinders reduce you to bloodied bits and then leave your corpse out for the rats.
Long intervals of high pitched feedback come to kick whats left of your teeth in and suffocate
any remaining life from your body.Things get even more intense in the last few minutes and take
you on a ride through suffering and stop at every place of torment along the way.War is Hell...And
BEREFT are war against humanity.

III.) JUST ONE BULLET:
Oldschool sounding Power Electronics. Both minimal and immense at the same time.Dense semi-
distorted synths and high end madness.Sharp blades of high end noise spin like a blender with your
arm stuck in it.It sounds like BEREFT are using power tools as well as electronic instruments to kick
your fucking ass.Feedback comes and fades into low drones as highly distorted vocals spew a few short
verses of rage. With this one BEREFT kicks the door down...Creates a disaster and gets the fuck out before
any sort of authorities or clean up crew arrive on the scene. As usual leaving a trail of broken bodies in their
wake.

IV.) NO CHANGE IN SIGHT:
Snaps of electricity flash before you in blinding brilliance. They help to form a rhythm that flows,
breaks apart and reforms whenever it sees fit.Secondary rhythms come at timed intervals in blasts
of bass and distortion. This is the type of stuff that will either relax you or drive you fucking nuts
depending on what type of person you are.Things get louder and heavier as a variety of tones and
textures are thrown into the mix. This doesn't sound like random noise however. This is carefully
crafted and constructed. There is a flow and a certain movement that was intended.Of course there
is always room for improvising in Power Electronics and I am sure at least some of this was formed
that way...But not to the point of sounding sloppy or like an after thought. Some very loud and highly
distorted vocals come in quick attacks followed by a raging electric storm. The following barrage of
vocals is fierce as fuck with a spiteful take no prisoners leave no witnesses sort of attitude.Wailing
feedback dances inbetween the words and it is with a long stretch of feedback that track four ends.

V.) GRINDING OUT:
Another fairly long track...Clocking in at close to eight minutes long.Rumbling and warped
electronics in strange tones grinding beneath high pitched feedback laced in reverb.Deep
distortion follows and creates decaying and eroded rhythms that gnaw at your ears and
dig their way deep inside like parasites choosing a host."Grinding Out" is a very fitting
title as it literally feels like something is grinding out chunks of your skull and chewing
on them.Noise like the tearing of flesh and ripping of muscle from bone is heard and makes
it's own pattern of pain in a steady dose.Though this album spends much of it's time dwelling
in instrumental passages it never seems dull or boring. Each track is interesting and unique in
it's own way while flowing together at the same time...All but the final track in a way but we
will get to that later.Heavy electronics begin to flow like an undercurrent or a pulse beneath
the multiple layers of raw and stripped bare noise that form the peice. All fades into a river of
high frequency torture to loose yourself in.Ringing and covered with delay and reverb. This is
heard until the end and fades out into silence.

VI.) A WALL OF PROMISES:
Rising static and rhythms that repeat like a broken record skipping in frustration.Feedback
soars to highs and swoops down in a clawed attack...Repeating like an imprinted memory
of some traumatic event playing over and over again.A balance of rhythm and harsh tones
and textures seem to be BEREFT's direction for this particular release and they really show
how much they can excell in that style on this one.The distortion is so thick at times that
the synths almost sound like electric guitars.Fuzzed out and full of energy. The type of vibe
you get from a really noisey Black Metal demo tape.Screeching electronics hiss like white
hot fire and really hold that note at the end.I have said this about several albums before and
it is true here as well. This is an endurance test.Only a handfull of people can enjoy this sort
of thing and the one's who do really do...So if this is your thing than I highly recommend this
one.

VII.) NO CHOICE/VICTIM:
This one is pretty heavy right out the gates.Again we have some really kickass rhythmic
noise. This time with thick synths and a little on the deeper darker side. There is still a
shit ton of brain frying feedback but here it all seems to be formed via microphone.
Distorted vocals come raw and raspy. It sounds like Peter Lee has a throat full of sand
slowly turning into glass.Nerve shredding noise grows thick like a swarm of wasps.
Each one stinging you right in the fucking ear cannals. There are also a lot more vocals
here than on previous tracks. It sounds like Peter Lee really took this one as a chance to
just fucking unleash all of his anger and hatred. It must have been building up for a long
time cause when he lets loose he doesn't hold back.Swirling electronics form around the
swarms from earlier and mix to make a deadly cloud of pure death thats heading for your
jugular. For a little over six minutes you are bombarded by this living plague. The end is
nigh.

VIII.) RESOLUTION:
The closing track is a lot different from the rest of the album, however the record
doesn't seem to suffer from this at all.Ultra high pitched ringing noise with other-
wordly chimes. It sounds like an amplified soundtrack from some old 1950's Sci-Fi
film.Like a Power Electronics re-interpretation of backing music from Lost in Space
or something similar. We are lost in this field of cosmic weirdness for over ten minutes.
This is both the quietest and the most difficult track to listen to.Soothing and nerve
wrecking at the same time.Gloomy ambience mopes in depression beneath shrill
ringing signals that stretch endlessly.Distorted rhythms churn in the distance and
things fade out a little bit for a while. You get a brief moment to gather your wits
before the feedback returns in full swing.Church-like organs practice for your coming
funeral and then drop into silence. Here comes the pain again. It's almost like a stripped
down re-working of some of the ideas of the previous tracks.Stretched out with the volume
cranked up til the knob breaks off.Don't worry too much...BEREFT were nice enough to mix
it up so it's not unbearable. We shift into another realm of Sci-Fi weirdness. It sounds like the
first few moments after arriving on some alien world.Odd and curious synths that could have
been taken right off an old reel from a drive in cinema. Some of you may be thrown off by this
track but I think of it as just another side of what BEREFT can do and feel privillaged to have it
included on the album. This one is certainly a trip...But a very enjoyable one.

I WOULD HOPE THAT BEREFT IS A NAME YOU KNOW WELL.IF NOT THIS IS
A GREAT PLACE TO START.HEAVY ELECTRONICS TO BRING YOU A LONG
HARD LOOK AT A HARSH REALITY:
7/10
