REVIEW-SWALLOWING BILE-GUERRILLA-PRO CDR

SWALLOWING BILE-GUERRILLA-PRO CDR
ALTAR OF WASTE - AOW163
HNW/HARSH NOISE/HNW
COMES IN A TRANSPARENT DVD STYLE CASE
WITH ARTWORK ON THE FRONT, BACK AND INSIDE.
LIMITED TO 20 HAND NUMBERED COPIES.
RECORDED IN 2014 AT THE ROOM.

I.) PERCHED ON THE BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY:
If I ever take part in a protest ralley, I am just gonna show
up and blast this on the biggest stereo I can find until I get
my fucking way. This album is punishing.I'm sure you have
all heard the rumors about the United States government
using Skinny Puppy records as a method of torture. If it was
up to me...I'd pop in this cd and crank it past the thresholds.
But enough of that...Moving on...So we begin on the edge of
the city...Here we gather, lock and load and get wait for the
right time to strike. After the initial blast of static and distortion,
it begins to feel like the immense static in this track is the growing
static in the air.Fear and excitement. This is the sound of nerves on
end...Anxious patience...The realization that the time to act is now
and there is no turning back. Both intese and soothing at the same
time.Like knowing that the events that are about to take place will
not be easy, but they will also soon be over at last.Just in case you have
failed to realize this by now...This album is total Harsh Noise Wall. There
is structure but no melody.Rythm but no drumming.Distortion but no guitar.
What we have here are four straight up noise fests that mirror the violence
and brutallity of guerrilla warfare. The time has come to break the mirrors,
march through streets of broken glass, and attack. No mercy.

II.) ASCEND, ATTACK, AND APPREHEND:
One thing that seperates Guerrilla from the countless other HNW
albums that have popped up over the last few years is that here each
track is different. It feels like each track serves a purpose and acts as
a chapter in a story.Rather than just being noise for the sake of making
noise, SWALLOWING BILE is noise that makes a statement.HNW that
urges the listener to take up arms and march in resistence as well as
providing a soundtrack of total devestation.Severe electronics as a
means to an end.Crunching electronics neath a uniform of dense
distortions. This is not music for enjoyment...This is sonic warfare.
Each track provides the listener with over ten minutes of punishment
to condition them for the harsh realities that await outside their front
door.Track two comes like a cloud of riot gas choking the life out of
everything and everyone within reach.Churning through the haze of
smoke and gas like the wheels of a tank and just as heavy. With track
two we march through the city streets, Capture the opposition and
prepare them to be transported to the next stage of the mission. Now
is the time to do what we came here to do.

III.) HOSTAGES EXECUTED BY THE RIVER:
SWALLOWING BILE are not playing around. The time has come for
them to show that they mean business and will stop at nothing to
realize their goal.Track three is my favorite of the four walls that
surround and also the longest. This one is a harsh frenzy of swarming
electronic rage. That moment when you are lined up for execution and
the reality of the situation becomes crystal clear. That reality being that
your flesh is being torn to shreds by high caliber machine guns fired off
by faceless men with no remorse. This track also flows like the river that
your corpse is thrown in.Easy disposal and a quick way to wash this place
clean. This grinds in your ears with the power of rushing whitewater rapids.
So far it seems like track one was the loudest but this by no means takes
away from the effect the rest of these have on the listener. And that effect
is that this will fucking floor you.The world is lucky that there were only
twenty copies of this album pressed.I can only imagine the devestation
that would follow massive worldwide exposure to something like this.
For the first time in my life I actually have the desire to see an HNW
act perform live.I really hope that SWALLOWING BILE rolls through
California sometime soon.

IV.) MONUMENTS DESECRATED, ARCHIVES DESTROYED:
Now that no one is in our way...No one there to make a stand or attempt
to defend whatever bullshit brought us to these desperate acts...It is time
to erase all traces of what once was from the face of the earth. The last track
here is an almighty monolithic wall that wipes through like a storm and eradicates
any structures that have managed to survive the assaults that came before it.This is
the sound of burning buildings. The sound of debris filling the air and smoke filling
the lungs of any who may have managed to hide out.Every imprint that once was is
to be burnt.Statues are toppled.Flags are shredded and towers are torn asunder. It only
takes SWALLOWING BILE thirteen minutes to utterly destroy what once stood here.
At less than five minutes in...A huge cloud of ash rushes across the streets as everything
is demolished.Quite some time later the ground begins to quake as explosions finish the
job and leave nothing but shrapnel and destruction in their wake.We depart as the roaring
fires fade to embers. What comes next is up to us.

BRUTAL HNW THAT HOLDS YOUR ATTENTION AND ENCOURAGES ACTION.

REVIEW-XIPHOID DEMENTIA-SECULAR HYMNS

XIPHOID DEMENTIA-SECULAR HYMNS
MALIGNANT RECORDS-TUMORCD61
POWER ELECTRONICS/EXPERIMENTAL NOISE/DARK AMBIENT/DEATH INDUSTRIAL
COMES IN A BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED 6 PANEL DIGI-PACK.
XIPHOID DEMENTIA IS:
EGAN BUDD

I.) ABORTION RITES:
Secular Hymns begins with deep synths that spread
the sounds of desperation...Hopeless, but all together
knowing that difficulties must be endured. This sounds
like the soundtrack to hardships and trials we must all
go through...Like a soul coming to life...Unborn but developing
and growing towards that time when it will pass from the womb
into the light of the world...Terrified, naked and screaming...And
then a nightmare is brought to life...Like a cruel mirror reflection
of birth and death. What was once to be a child is now to be killed
and torn away from it's maker by harsh pumping drugs ending it's short
and precious life.We hear what sounds like field recordings taken from
the inside of the womb.Rushing chemicals burst into static and harsh noise.
We share in this doomed, nameless bastards agony as a choir sings a haunting
hymn of mourning. We are subjected to the sounds of the child as it is dying...
The torment of it's mother in the pain of a chemical Hell...The child will soon
be dead and it's mother will never be the same. All grows chaotic as noise like
horrid screams and shrill cries mock those of a child's birth...But alas, it is only
mockery. No life shall come from this...It is dead and in it's place we hear an exhausted
voice cry out the words "No!, what have I done!!! " This is a track of emotion and terror.
The type of stuff that really gets to you and lingers deep within to disturb you long after
the song is over...Distorted sounds like a those of a busy surgical room fill the atmosphere.
Rushing water and blood circle down the drain...The clinking of the surgical steel...Intensity
like what you'd experience in a state of shock...All of this and more is captured within this
tragic noise...The tracks here are long and will test your endurance. All the layers and textures
of experimental noise and eerie Power Electronics way heavy in the depths of your mind...
XIPHOID DEMENTIA compresses the entire process of a childs life to it's death in one hellish
track...Leaving you being for the same fate just so the nightmare will be over.

II.) MY TIME WILL NEVER COME:
Bold words for a track title but I'd say it is very fitting here.
At first XIPHOID DEMENTIA has you waiting patiently and
unaware of just what may happen to come next...But soon the
tick tocking of countless clocks make your antisipation grow.
Slowly but surely we move along carried by each tick-tock, tick-tock.
It seems to be getting louder and louder as if counting down to the moment
of your expiration...But for Egan Budd apparently, That time will never come.
This almost makes you anxious as the sounds travel steadily from right and left
and back again...Over and over. The sound of the clock is so clear against the backing
silence until a buzzing and humming sound comes loud and startling...Setting you up
right in your seat...Not asking but demanding your attention.Suddenly it's not just a
clock upon a wall that you can hear in the next room.Soon this track puts you inside
the gears and cogs of the rustic machinery...Like being in a giant clock tower as massive
mechanics turn and churn. You can hear all the clicks and clangs of the antique metals in
action...You can even hear the wind from the sway of the pendilum...Like something out
of Edgar Allan Poe's poem "The tell tale Heart" where the main character was driven to
kill another out of what he believed to be a nessecity to bring the greater good...Only then
to burry him under the floor boards...Driven to madness by the sounds of his victims heart
beating in his mind much like the effects of the clicking clocks here. This is followed by many
unearthly and wonderous sounds played on synths...And then layerd with more synths...Some
of which actually remind me of BLUE OYSTER CULT as odd as that sounds...It's enough to drive
you mad.Church bells ring and echo like we have entered a grand cathedral.A celestial place far
beyond the threshold of mortal existence...A temple of immortality perhaps? This is very similar
to artists like SKY BURIAL or UNCERTAIN...At least in this particular track. It feels like you are
walking through the corridors of eternity. To say that this sounds immense would not even come
close to describing the epic beauty that XIPHOID DEMENTIA has conjured up here.Beautiful synths
with the voices of flutes and organs and a myriad of textures blend together to form a piece as dark
and mysterious as PHELIOS or LUSTMORD while at the same time being as punishing as SHOCK
FRONTIER or REGOSPHERE (The ladder having accompanied XIPHOID DEMENTIA on a stunning
split earlier this year released by Phage Tapes and ANNIHILVS)...As for this one...This is not at all
what I have come to expect from Malignant Records...But that most certainly isn't a bad thing.

III.) WHAT YOU BELIEVE:
It begins with massive strikes of what sounds like a barrage of pummeling
civil war era marching drum. You can hear the sounds of light weight sheet
metal tapping. There is a constant fast paced tempo that keeps you on edge,
but it's when you hear what sounds like a strange rustle in tall grass that really
makes you feel nervous and anxious.Loud footsteps are heard running through
your ears like soldiers rushing from the shadows for a surprise attack.Warped singing
plays to a backwards tune and rises like a chest when inhaling to then fall and repeat
itself...The panicked inhalations sending an eerrie chill running down your back like
warm blood.Cold rain falls hard against your feverish body...Running under a thunderous
sky.A bolt of lightning strikes and the drums come to a hault. It seems like everything has
stopped...But this is not a peaceful quiet...More of a sinister, stirring silence that makes you
feel like you are in a surreal dreamlit daze. You question just what you were running from as
the silence surrounds and the danger seems to cease...But something is still not quite right. All
has not stopped it seems...You were disturbed from your sleep by what sounds like a generator
echoing in an empty morgue...Empty except for the slumbering corpses that lay like grotesque
catatonic dolls. We hear scratching metal pipes dragging across a concrete floor.Broken elctrical
wires spark as lights flicker in a damp and menacing hallway. As we walk down the darkened hall
we hear the generator growing louder...Humming more and more violently as we approach the
source of the strange sounds. There are also sounds of breathing...Like the walls are alive and closing
in on you slowly but surely...You know this isn't going to end well by the sound of it.Wherever this odd
place is...It has long been abandoned and you are alone left with only your dwindling witts and a strong
paranoia that is growing in intensity. While I am currently listening to this through head phones to capture
every hidden sound and detail...I find that this quickly sends  me straight into an anxious and uneasy state
of mind.Personally one segment of this actually scared the shit out of me...Lets just say that there are areas
of the track that are quite unexpected.A rush of adrenaline fuelled by an unforeseen audio trigger.I literally
threw the headphones from my head as a result of my reaction and the track doesn't even end there.Rather,
now it feels like something has signaled the time to open wide the gates of Hell...A hidden door to another
dimention...Like Hellraiser when the riddle box is opened...Only here we are punished to an eternity where
we are blind. We may not be able to see the horrors that await within Secular Hymns...But we can surely hear
them coming. It matters not what you believe...This is what is and what shall be.

IV.) BREATH:
The final track starts off like the music itself is breathing.Like the slow moving
life support machines you'd expect to find in a hospital.Air is being pumped into
a plastic cylinder connected to a dying man.You see him twitching and writhing
like a worm as the rain falls down and it's life nears its end.It almost seems like
the machines are feeding the patient poison.Controlled agony. The muffled voices
from the hospital making him grow delerious...Disorienting and making his heart
beat out of rythm. You can still hear his sorrowful gasps for air over the sounds of the
cold machinery. He then begins to hyperventalate. The air is cold and stagnet...Like a
soft pillow over his face smothering him slowly...Leaving the terminal patient much
too weak to stop what is happening. His body is convulsing in this state of paranoia
and fear. You hear his moans and groans like a burn victim whose body is seeping. Each
movement a burst of red hot agony. One wrong move and the flesh will fall off. This track
is quite eerrie at times...Bringing back memories of when I used to visit my father in the
hospital. There would always be a room that had a patient that looked more like a victim
than someone recieving any sort of help or care.Their eyes always begging like they were
trying to say "help me" but their throats dry and limbs useless as high amounts of medication
filled their veins. This album ends with that sort of feeling.Helpless and left to lay there in a
dimly lit room...The only clear thought in your mind is the tune of some secular hymn that
will bring no comfort.No Hope.

ONCE AGAIN XIPHOID DEMENTIA PROVIDES US WITH A UNIQUE POINT OF
VIEW.DEEPLY THOUGHT PROVOKING ELECTRONICS AND AMBIENCE FOR

REVIEW-L'AVENIR-S/T-CASSETTE

L'AVENIR-S/T-CASSETTE
BELATEN RECORDS
COLD WAVE/MINIMAL SYNTH AMBIENT
COMES ON A CLEAR CASSETTE IN A
PLASTIC CASE WITH INSERT AND DIGITAL
DOWNLOAD CODE.
L'AVENIR IS:
JASON SLOAN

SIDE A.)

I.) ARAL SEA:
The first track here is an instrumental composed of
ascending synth notes that climb to the heavens and
then plunge headfirst like a falcon spiraling towards
the earth.Lower notes rise and fall under this as well
but are much deeper and more subtle.Drums repeat
in mid-paced rythm...Relying heavily on high-hats to
push them along.Flowing synth leads expand and gently
blanket the horizon like the sun setting behind a vast
oceanic view. This is really relaxing and soothing music.
The chosen tones and textures have a very 1980's sound
to them.Another beautiful and obscure minimal wave
project to add to the list of great acts in the genre.
The best part of track one is it gives you an idea of where
the rest of the album is going without spoiling the surprises
that await.Deep synths and fading rythms end the piece as
the snow begins to fall.

II.) FALLEN LIKE THE SNOW II:
Minimal drum machine rythms mix and mingle as synths
slowly begin to crawl to the surface. There is a very Goth-like
vibe here.Dark and thought provoking.Deep, melancholic
vocals are present. These are very similar to the stuff that
came out of the dark electronic underground in the 90's.
Artists like DO OR DIE or AND ONE...But with vocals that
sound like a man in mourning rather than someone concerned
about a night out at the club. The synths here sound much more
dangerous and uninviting as well. This does not sound like it was
intended for a fun night out but rather a night alone in solitude
and reflection. For something more minimal oriented this specific
track has a great number of layers going on at all times. They flow
like cold winds stirring your fears and inviting them to come into
the light.Vocally this has more in common with traditional 90's
gothic rock than what most people would think of when they hear
the words Goth and Electronic put together.Huge gusts of freezing
wind sweep the song into silence and prepare the way for the next
journey.

III.) FUGUE:
Synths rush fourth in immensity as rythms that make me recal early
NEW ORDER begin. The vocals are somber and sound full of loss and
regret. This is really beautiful stuff with a sad but catchy chorus. At times
the vocals remind me of a more depressed DEAD CAN DANCE or maybe
even THE SISTERS OF MERCY in a strange way.Minimal drum rythms dance
like flakes of falling snow in a slow waltz downwards as haunting synth leads
fill the air.Slight touches of reverb are applied to great effect. It never feels like
there is too much or too little going on at once.L'AVENIR dwells in a realm of
perfect balance...But by the tone in his voice it is obvious that he dwells there
alone and deep in thought.

IV.) AN EMPTY DAY:
This is a type of music that takes a lot of emotion to make.
Though it may sound cold and inhuman at times...There is
something there beneath the surface that still manages to
be heard.L'AVENIR may reveal this more than many others
in the genre but he still seems to be in control.Deep electronic
rythms and slow drums with hard hitting snares open the last
track on the A side. This is similar to artists like LUST FOR YOUTH
and BLACK MARBLE.Everything sounds like it was created on analog
machines...Synths you'd find covered in dust and cobwebs in the back
of a pawn shop.So far this is the most depressing track on the album.
Total downer music for long nights alone in your room.Clicking sounds
like those of communicating insects fill the silent night air.Cold leads
come through like icy fingers stretching toward the light but finding
no warmth. There is an overwhelming sense that any and all happiness
is just beyond your reach. So close you can taste it...And that taste is
bitter and cruel.

SIDE B.)

V.) WASH:
Mid-pased drums and deep toned synths lay beneath a gentle
layer of icy leads carefully played on fragile keys.Dark rythms
that you can move your head to fill the track along with some
pretty neat drum work.Yes the drums are programmed but that
does not mean that they were not thought out and programmed
well.As the lyrics ask an unknown source to "Wash us clean" it
really does feel like you are being washed or baptized by the
waves of haunting synth work that flow over you. This is the
type of music that sends shivers down the spine and makes
the hairs on your arms stand up straight in admiration of the
beauty it presents.Truly stunning.Majestic and fragile like the
leaves in the fall as they dance to their deaths.

VI.) EYES AND WORDS:
If I had to pick a "single" for this album this would be it.
Brittle percussions run in a race to the finish and are joined
by strange layers of synths that do the same.Weird buzzing
and moaning electronics begin and die out as deep rythms
begin on bass keys. This track is pretty damn catchy too but
not in a poppy or happy sort of way...More like a song of grief
that sinks it's claws into you and forces you to remember the
pain it brings.Lines like "Dead, cold and broken" and "All alone
to die in an empty bed" sum up this album better than a thousand
words ever could. This could have just as easily been called "Ice and
Words" as this is a very cold Darkwave track. If someone were to ask
me what Darkwave/Coldwave/Minimalwave or anything similar to
that sounded like this would be my go to.

VII.) FALLOUT:
Imagine if all your favorite New Wave bands from the 80's
were morbidly obsessed with JOY DIVISION or BAUHAUS
and didn't give a shit about making top of the charts. Now
imagine that one of the band members decided he was a
little to misanthropic to be in a full band and decided to
create such a thing by himself...This is sort of what L'AVENIR
sounds like.Haunting vocals that have lost all hope.Minimal
beats and synths soaked in nihilism and despair and smothered
in the agony of tormenting memories.Fucking awesome right?
In the last few years there have been quite a few projects popping
up and attempting this style but few do it as good as L'AVENIR.
Unless the closing track is total shit then we have a flawless album
here folks...And to top it off it's a fucking cassette!!! Which with this
style of music it just would'nt feel right if it wasn't.

VIII.) THE DARKEST STAR:
Cold and menacing synths played on highs and lows band
together to form this short but fitting outro to the track.
Pure dread for a little over a minute...I know it's over but
if you wanna hear it again then get off your ass and flip the
tape. Then you can go back to feeling sorry for yourself as
you sit there soaking up this dark and beautiful ride through
depression and woe.

BEST DARKWAVE/COLDWAVE ALBUM OF WE HAVE HEARD
THIS YEAR.THIS IS GOING TO BE A DIFFICULT ONE FOR ANY
OF L'AVENIR'S CONTEMPORARIES TO TOP.GOOD LUCK:

REVIEW-VERDANT-SINCERITY-CD

VERDANT-SINCERITY-CD
EXISTENCE ESTABLISHMENT/EXISTEST17
HARSH NOISE/POWER ELECTRONICS/DEATH INDUSTRIAL
COME IN A FOUR PANEL DIGIPACK.
VERDANT IS:
ZACH ADAMS

I.) HELPLESS:
Sound collage style noise created with metallic objects...
Canisters, coins, birdcages...Sounds that can be made with
various objects of the sort.Spoken female vocals speak harsh
truths as sub-bass frequencies and grinding static rise from the
depths of silence. The backing noise becomes more intense and
is joined by waves of feedback.Chaotic yet controlled. All falls to
near silence save for the gentle throbbing of an undercurrent of
bass.Harsh Noise takes the place of what was once so quiet. Those
same spoken vocals continue but are now filtered through delay
and reverb.Haunting and dizzying synths drift like miasma through
the ether. The distorted screams of Zach Adams fill the air.Drenched
in angst, anger and desperation as the ghostly female voice laughs and
taunts him like a vivid memory. This sounds beyond bitter and disgusted.
Like a homicide waiting to happen.

II.) FOR HER:
Static rises with the squealing of metal scraping on metal.
An ambience of feedback drones and hums in the air as the
vocals begin.Distorted and repeating through echos of anger.
An old song plays on an old 45 somewhere in the distance then
fades into silence.Like before this sounds utterly pissed. These are
the kind of vocals one would expect to be unleashed after a long
period of holding in painful emotions...Eventually they are going
to burst to the surface and when they do you'd better hope your
no where near.Lucky us..We get a front row seat. That old record
starts spinning once again...This time warped and fucked up to the
point that it starts skipping...Forming a new rythm to back the track.
This can be compared to artists like GNAWED/HUMAN LARVAE/THE
BIRDCAGE THEATER/Etc/Etc...The old 45 plays once more bringing track
two to an end.

III.) NO:
Spoken vocals concerning wrongful accusations open this short track
backed by very low sub-bass and dark ambience. This is pretty much
an intro or a bridge to the next track.Clocking in at just a little over
30 seconds...Lets see what this leads us to next.

IV.) NYLON ANGEL:
fragile and melodic chimes.Sub-bass gathers and rises along
with electronic pulses and lazer like synths.Down-tuned, pitch
shifted spoken vocals add a sense of melancholy and regret to
the piece. This is softer than the first two tracks by far...For now
at least...The lyrics concern love, lust and bondage and yet the
overall feeling of sadness in this track is undeniable. It sounds
like one deep in recollection recalling the lustful adventures
of his youth with both joy and loss in his voice.Low pulses like
the amplified beating of the wings of insects join the ongoing
wind chimes and music boxes that fill the air.Dense static also
presents itself and gives way to wailing but not overpowering
feedback. This grows in volume without covering the sound of
the chimes in the distance...Though they are now quite obscured.
A haze of electronic pulses clouds and almost covers all that was
before...As if the memories have triggered a rush of anxiety sending
everything into a blurred panic. The noise almost sounds like taunting
voices and children's laughter at times...The chimes return though more
menacing and wandering this time. Those somber vocals have returned as
well but with a more sinister tone.Brittle chimes fade into silence as we
step into the parlor.

V.) IN THE PARLOR:
Strange distorted synth rythms that make me think of COIL and NON
start this one. They are quickly obliterrated by steaming feedback and
harsh distortion.Whistling and screaming in a fog of hot smoke.Spoken
vocals recite words of forbidden perversion. The overall vibe is one of
danger and uneasiness. For a little under two minutes you are subjected
to Zach Adam's inmost dark desires. When you get done chewing through
the ropes he's bound you in then join me on the next track.

VI.) GOD KNOWS:
One thing worth noting is this is a very varied album.VERDANT is by
no means a one trick pony...Probably closer to a human pony girl with
many tricks up her sleeves. An uncomfortable drone that sounds like
something has been time stretched hovers as violins play out of tune.
This one is similar to FUNERAY CALL meets NURSE WITH WOUND
or maybe really early CURRENT 93...All the while deep vibrating bass
movements churn out like rolling fog beneath all of this. For a brief time
midway through only the violins remain and it sounds similar to a small
chamber orchestra warming up and tuning their instruments.Glass objects
clatter and bows are scraped across old strings as deep spoken vocals and
menacing synths are heard.A chorus of shouts fills the background and then
vanishes.Parts of this remind me of the main theme from the movie Insidious.
And honestly the word insidious is a very fitting description.

VII.) YELLOW JACKET:
This is a very interesting track as far as concept and subject matter.
I would love the chance to sit down with Zach Adams and discuss
what this symbolizes to him...As the name suggests the track is filled
with spoken passages concerning the yellow jacket. This is deeply poetic
and brings to mind childhood memories of being stung and awe striken
by the dangers and beauty that nature can pack into such a small package.
Dark ambience similar to SKY BURIAL or PHELIOS drifts and expands in
all directions.Birds chirp in the trees above as very quiet rythms awaken
in the background.A perfect balance of Death Industrial dread and serene
but dark atmospheric music.Rumbling that sounds like it is coming from
the earth beneath the floorboards is heard quaking into existence. We are
close to halfway through the track when everything winds down to deep
pulsing synths and the tones that have carried over from the opening of
the song.It is now that the spoken words begin to vividly and poetically
describe the yellow jacket. The details in the lyrics really make this a neat
track and really bring it to life. What sounds like insects chewing, spitting
and forming nests or colonies begins backed by low and shifting drones. We
close with odd electric pulses and a few parting words.

VIII.) SUPPLE:
High end frequencies gather and rise...Piercing like needles.Swarming
electronics congregate in a busy mass.Soft spoken female vocals can be
heard repeating a brainwashing mantra.A second layer of spoken vocals
similar to the first begins as static noise hovers over a gentle melody played
on piano.A perverse male voice speaks in detail on how he prefers his women.
Samples from black and white 1950's movies are added to the mix as the noise
increases and becomes more menacing.Grinding electronics and slightly distorted
vocals with a multitude of samples are present along with metallic percussions and
various other noises filtered through phasers and other effects. An electric pulse comes
fourth from nothingness and rises to a crescendo followed by repeating samples urging
you to "stay supple" and one last perverse line..."The swollen, puckered asshole bookended
with smeared mascara."

IX.) PLEASANT:
Right from the start this isn't what most people would consider "Pleasant..."
But fuck most people. This is a noise blog so here at Traumatic Static, this
is the type of shit we live for.Rapid fire machine gun fast hard electronic
pulses and warping signals in an orgy of effects and weirdness.Ambience
rings out played on high notes...Lingering after the initial blasts fade into
the distance.Static cloaks the air.Metals clang in the background and then
another blast perhaps even harsher than the first. This is similar to some of
EN NIHIL's work as well as GNAWED or FIRE IN THE HEAD...We are in
pleasantville for a little under four minutes and then it's 40 years of sodom.

X.) 40 YEARS OF SODOM:
This is another short track that serves as a bridge to tie the longer tracks
together.40 years in the blink of an eye.The hands of clocks tick and you
can hear the rustling movement caused by an unknown source.Deep and
downtuned spoken vocals narrate the piece. He speaks from a quiet room.
Someone coughs in the distance without interrupting his story. The hands
of time click through the silence until it is apple blossom time.

XI.) APPLE BLOSSOM TIME:
Humming and buzzing electronics bleed out as the sounds of women
suffering fill the air.Cries of suffering and agony...Witchy spoken vocals
begin.Their tone like a demented necromancer who is obsessed with
2nd wave Black Metal conjuring up some sadistic spell to invoke pain
for his pleasure.Harsh grinding noise assaults the listener as raging vocals
like those heard in the first two tracks come in a blistering blast.A poem
of violence recited along a chorus of shrapnel...The demented spoken words
are still present throughout as well as the tortured cries of female victims.
Phasers wrap their tendrils around the screamed vocals blurring the lines
between rage and reason.Things quiet down towards the middle of the track
allowing the moans of suffering to really shine.Women writhe in pain as electric
drills and countless other instruments of torture are plugged in to sparking outlets.
This is the kind of depravity you would expect from bands like SHP/IRM/WHORID/
NTT/Etc/Etc...Grinding blades and spinning saws fill the air with a razor sharp hum
and chunks of flesh. One final cry through a haze of static and it's all over.

XII.) BROWN OXFORDS:
Flowing ambience in a dreamy drift...Right when you start to space out
you are shocked back into focus by loud live wires and metal grinding
noise. This sounds like Power Electronics actually created with power
tools...At least the harsher layers of the piece.Weird electronic pulses
join in and ultra loud distorted screams bring the album full circle.
The mix of low pulses and loud vocals brings to mind THE VOMIT
ARSONIST's more recent works. The album sort of ends abruptly...
A few last screams and all quickly fades out leaving you feeling
like your in between dreaming and waking.

THIS IS A VERY ENGAGING AND VARIED ALBUM.
VERDANT SHOWS THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO PICK
ONE SPECIFIC STYLE AND RIDE WITH IT TO MAKE AN
INTERESTING ALBUM.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR

REVIEW-POWER MONSTER-TRICKS ARE FOR KIDS-CASSETTE

POWER MONSTER-TRICKS ARE FOR KIDS-CASSETTE
INDUSTRIAL COLLAPSE PRODUCTIONS-ICP02
HARSH NOISE/POWER ELECTRONICS/HNW
COMES IN A PLASTIC CASE WITH INSERT.
LIMITED TO 25 HAND NUMBERED COPIES
ON CLEAR CASSETTE.
POWER MONSTER IS:
ALEXANDRA PHARMAKIDIS

SIDE A.)

I.) CICATRIX / II.) FELLATRIX:
POWER MONSTER is a one woman project that creates
some really nice easy listening peices...Smooth sailing.
That is if you can easily listen to the sounds of an armada
of rusted and coroded WWII tankers sailing on a sea of
twisted metals, sharp glass and shards of debris among
other waste and wreckage. So yeah this is some Harsh
Noise (and sometimes almost HNW) for those of you
who are into stuff like SWALLOWING BILE, SEWER
ELECTION, FLESH PRISON, TAINT, INFIRMARY, Etc.
One cassette...Two sides...Two tracks on each...This is
all you need to see what POWER MONSTER is all about.
But by no means stop there...Check out all of Alexandra's
work if you get the chance. Most often when the words "Noise"
and "Female" are combined people think of PHARMAKON right
away...And though that means she has done something to grab
peoples attention so often...It does not mean she is the only lady
making noise nor does it make her the most "extreme." As far as
sonic assualts go...Very few compare to POWER MONSTER.This
is grinding, ripping, harsh and ugly stuff...Presented raw and loud.
However...Don't write this off as random harshness just for the sake
of being loud and noisey...Every track here is well thought out and
constructed...Layered, textured, timed and executed as an artform.
Each composition holds a rage all it's own and tones unique to each
are used to express this.Feedback and crunshing waves of relentless
distortion rise like tidal waves from the sea to pummel and devastate
anything in their wake.Once the beach front property is properly demolished
and done away with this keeps on going.POWER MONSTER is a churning machine
of destruction stuck on overdrive...But even then...At times you can still catch traces
of what could be considered melodic or at the very least some nice ambiance running
through the various layers of these compositions...While at other times it is pure nails
across a chalkboard amped to ten and used as a means of percussion type of stuff. What
ever route Miss Pharmakidis chooses to go...She makes it her own and it works for her.

SIDE B.)

III.) ORATRIX / IV.) TESTTRIX:
As far as Harsh Noise goes this is top shelf stuff.I am sure a lot of heads
will turn when they hear this...The name POWER MONSTER sort of throws
you off at first and almost makes it seem like it will be a cute attempt at a
girl trying to play with the big boys...But then you hear what this sounds like
and you realize that it is actually a pretty dammned fitting description for
the monstrous tracks held on this tiny little cassette tape...In other words
this is a real ego smashing kick in the nuts...Especially if you're one of those
douche bag elitist types who think women have no place in the noise scene.
Keep talking that shit...If POWER MONSTER is any indication of what the
future holds for our macho-man dominated scene then you might wanna get
ready to bend over and take it like the big man you are...My only complaint
with this and all of Alexandra's releases is that it just can't compare to the
experience of hearing this in a live setting...But that can be said about pretty
much anybody...Best thing you can do is blast this as loud as possible just take
it all in.Like I mentioned before POWER MONSTER often drifts into some
HNW style territory...However, the purists would dismiss that right away as
there are too many changes weaving within these distorted onslaughts to truly
call this HNW...Nonetheless, This is similar in that these are long and highly
distorted compositions that seem to swallow up everything in the room until
they finally vanish like a black hole suddenly closing like it never existed...Not
to say this doesn't leave an impact for the damage is done and it most certainly
does.Lets hope that this is a glimpse of what the future holds for females creating
noise...If your a women into harsh electronic music...Follow this example and start
fucking shit up...We'd love to hear it over here at Traumatic Static!!!

POWER MONSTER-NTH DEGREE-CASSETTE
INDUSTRIAL COLLAPSE PRODUCTIONS-ICP01
HARSH NOISE/POWER ELECTRONICS/HNW
COMES IN A PLASTIC CASE WITH INSERT.
LIMITED TO 25 HAND NUMBERED COPIES
ON CLEAR CASSETTE.
POWER MONSTER IS:
ALEXANDRA PHARMAKIDIS

SIDE A.)

I.) ENMITY:

Well....Shit!...This one kicks off with a big fucking BANG!
Ten seconds in and I am already very into this stuff right
here.Harsh Noise with a rythm that sound like a thousand
Black Metal screams wailing at once while being blasted through
some pretty damn intense distortion...In other words...I fucking love
it.This sounds like all hell is breaking loose and rising through the crust
of the earth in a massive storming tornado...As all the world waits below...
Helpless and terrified in pathetic little groups huddled in their underground
sheters....Shaking in their boots in unison until it passes...Who said this storm
was gonna pass anytime soon? And who said there would be any left to tell of it
if it does? Will it pass? Will there indeed be survivors? I think not...This is not quite
what I had expected to hear off this this casssete...Complete with a pair of nice titts on
the cover. It seems that was just a facade. The illusion of pleasure for this is pure audio
agony.POWER MONSTER spits venom and shits hell fire.A fire that roars in long movements
of brutal and relentless Harsh Noise. The eye of a storm that thunders with distortion. It is like
Alexandra Pharmakidis is a sadistic puppeteer turning and twisting all of the nobs on her grotesque
little toys and unleashing blistering wave after wave of earth scorching madness.Nth Degree goes to
work on your mind like sadistic son of a bitch convinced that causing mental and sonic destruction is
the only thing worth doing. This seems like it  never ends and once it finally does it's only the begining
of this twisted fairytale...And like all the old tales...This will surely end in death and torment.

SIDE B.)

II.) ENTROPY  / III.) END:
This starts the same as before with a glorious entrance.
Another storm is at hand and has to be delt with...There
is just no other way around it.Urgent emergencies to tear
your world asunder. The faint sounds of a slow but merry
little tune that epicly fails to uplift you in any way, shape
or form. This is about as happy as dark clouds over a mass
funeral for children who died slow and painful deaths. But
this is a great and fitting soundtrack for burrying their disease
ridden bodies.Followed by the Harsh Noise we have more tones
of dread that come as a quiet, creeping pestilence until we endure
noise growing so loud that it can drive you mad.Being that we are
already all hopelessly insane here we often tend to scatter in desperation
towards the nearest and loudest noise to fill our  corrupted minds that are
always in much need of some new enlightenment. What is Hell for others is
a paradise for us it seems and this is Heaven...And now for the grand finale
you have all been waiting for.Saving the best for last is an understatement
with this one...And it sure as Hell made me a very happy little doll.I melt
as the final Industrial squeals and distorted scream-like blasts of Heavenly
Harsh Noise reach their climax. An orgasmic orgy of pure sound to leave you
disemboweled and crawling towards your tape deck to flip the cassette and
commit suicide all over again.I'm not sure about you but I know that I will
die a very happy girl.

REVIEW-JARL-FRAGILE CONFRONTATION-CD

JARL-FRAGILE CONFRONTATION-CD
ANNIHILVS POWER ELECTRONIX-APEX001
DEATH INDUSTRIAL/DARK AMBIENT/MINIMAL SOUNDSCAPES
COMES IN A JEWEL CASE WITH FOLD OUT INSERT.
JARL IS:
ERIK JARL

ALL TRACKS ARE UNTITLED AND SIMPLY APPEAR
AS I-VI

I.)
Winds of death plague the mind as you enter the first room
in the house of Jarl. The atmosphere holds a restless feeling.
This is a place where the reverberating quiet of nothing grows
loud like white noise. It is a constant noise...almost patronizing
and taunting to the listener. One that seems to never end until a
single strike cuts the silence like a sharp and sudden pain in ones
side.Catching you off guard...But you dare not look around to find
the source. This sounds very dark and in this thick darkness who can
be sure what may be lurking within?...You stay still hoping it won't find
you again but it does.Minimal noise that drifts and flows like passing
thoughts in ones mind...Like a chilling draft that brings a lingering cold.
You hear what sounds like someone striking a match and footfalls running
on cold metalic stairs. This happens again and again like an overdose of deja-vu.
Track one is like a bad dream you can't wake up from.An ominous soundscape
full of hidden dangers.Further in we tread...This is only the beginning.

II.)
This one sounds similar in some ways to FUNERARY CALL...Especially their
"Fragments from the Aethyr" album. But here that moody and sinister effect is
created without the use of violins and string instruments. With JARL that same
uneasy feeling is achieved through an eerie build up of minimal sounds that have
been construced and placed just at the right moments. Not too fast. Not to slow...It's
like breathing. Many of you who have aquired the taste for darker soundscapes may
find it soothing...Perhaps even enough that you find yourself drifting away into a deep
oblivious sleep...That is until JARL shakes you awake with the disturbance of a sudden
boom!!! The racing heart beat of glorious noise throbbing in your ears.Pounding metal
like one lone worker in an abandoned warehouse carrying out his own agenda over and
over again.Night and day.Loudly pounding metal for some unknown purpose.Filling the
air with sparks and debris until you can hardly breath.Wheezing and close to fainting as
the track draws to an end.

III.)
Like a fire furnace blazing as the wood is burning red hot.
Blasts of heat are coming fast. This has an entrancing effect
as you experience the roaring sound.Theres just something
about watching something burn and hearing the sounds of
it's destruction. The feeling of warmth on your skin but the
cold still biting your back...That is what this feels like.Industrial
sounds like a distant oil field are heard. The turning of hungry drills.
Their teeth digging deep into the ground. That low rumble beneath you
and that poison fumes above you.Toxic winds riding on the air as that constant
fire burns ever still...Always growing bigger and never satisfied.JARL is a gnawing
and ravenous beast in a state of perpetual hunger.Take a listen and be devoured.

IV.)
Phaser effects reaching to one ear as quick as the next.
Like standing at the edge of a cliff  as the winds blast so
swiftly that they distorts your hearing to a disorienting
muffle. You feel it moving you but you stand there with
your feet planted in the  ground. You can only endure as
the bass filled tempo picks up.Steady but rising and followed
by dark ambience like that of the track before it.Think of the
album as a book and each song a chapter.Although there are
new developments in plot...It is still the same story. One of
horror where you are the main character...Winds join with
harsh rain...Hitting your skin as it falls stinging like hail.
The storm grows louder and louder as the intensity grows
immense. All you can do is withstand the storm until you
are left freezing and alone in the desolate aftermath.

V.)
Bells chime and ring...They echo like those in a church cathedral.
Calling the saints to come forth...But it almost seems two lives are
at hand. One in serenity one in tragedy.both are living at the ecxact
same time but soon their fates will tie like the ribbons of night and
day.In that final hour where they become one. They ring for some time now.
Like two songs played in unison...Multiple layers and textures becoming one.
First clear then distorted like a dream or a contorting dark shadow coming closer
and closer towards you...Moving so fast you capture only a mere glimps.Vocals in a
whisper can be found...Very faint but never the less they are there...Beautiful darkness
is what I would call this song.It is it's very own orchestra of the night and the dawn.

VI.)
I really enjoy the phaser effects that each of these songs have. Each used in their own
specific way.It really creates a whole new environment for the listener to enjoy and
become submersed in.Transcending their own little world to a vast tundra.Like a blank
canvas for your imagination to paint it's own visions upon. The composer can only do so
much...For it is up to the listener to connect to each individual track.I don't find that hard
to do at all with JARL.It is easy to enjoy and explore all of the hidden wonders on this endless
journey through one man's imagination as it bleeds into your own.Te sounds of rain and storms
in far off abandoned places...The emotions of serenity in nothingness...The way it moves you like
the wind...JARL does all of these things in his own unique way.All of the tracks though they differ...
have a connection never seeming out of place.A common thread that weaves it all together as a
whole.JARL is a grand architecht of sound.I encourage you to explore this album as well as the
rest of his work.

TAPE I:

SIDE A.)
I.) HORROR OF THE TRUTH / II.) THE AMAZING FLYING CARCASS /
III.) SHALLOW GRAVE / IV.) BORED STIFFS / V.) PHANTOM PAINS /
VI.) SCORCHED ABOVE THE BREATH:
SIDE B.)
VII.) WHEN THE SMOKE CLEARS / VIII.) SIGHT FOR SORE EYES /
IX.) THE ELEPHANT MAN / X.) UNTITLED / XI.) UNTITLED:

This isn't quite Grind...It's not really Noise and it is in no way Metal
or Industrial but somehow GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD have managed
to take elements and characteristics of all of the above and mix them
into something pretty damn unique. If I had to compare this to other
artists then I guess I'd have to say that this is sort of similar to the works
of AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED, PISS JUNKIE, and maybe kind of close
to stuff like WHOURKR or THE LOCUSTS?...But even that doesn't quit
paint the best picture. This is one you will just have to hear for yourself.
There are no guitars here...Just relentless blasts of programmed drum
and bass cranked up to ten and done at lightspeed along with a fine
collection of raunchy samples that are both offensive and comedic.
And then there are those vocals which are done in the vein of brutal
hardcore meets in your face power violence meets pissed of grindcore
meets metalic and crust punk...Vocally speaking this is in your face stuff
along the lines of DESPISE YOU, BRUTAL TRUTH, INSECT WARFARE,
NASUM,Etc...Side A features six total mindfucks to annihilate the senses.
Synth ambience and wailing noise comes as an introduction which makes
what follows come as a startling surprise.Pummeling attacks of percussion
with the bass cranked up to ten and vocals spewed fourth in short bursts
of pure rage.Like I mentioned before the songs are broken up by samples
that lead you into the next as well as provide you with a short time to
breath before the next barrage of lung crushing insanity...Side B is even
more relentless as you don't get an intro to prepare you for this audio
massacre.Blast beats at ridiculous speeds,Glitchy rythms and stomping
beats march (or blast) along with utterly pissed screams. The final track
on the B side is actually pretty beautiful with orchestral passages and
earth shattering explosions.Welcome to World War III...By the time
this is over you just may be saying "Goodbye cruel world" yourself.

TAPE II.)

SIDE C.)
I.) KILLING TIME WITH STATE OF THE ART TECHNOLOGY /
II.) ORGAN GRINDER / III.) BRAIN DAMAGE / IV.) COLLAPSED
LUNGS / V.) I'LL SLEEP WHEN I'M DEAD / VI.) OUT OF SIGHT,
OUT OF MY FUCKING MIND:
SIDE D.)
VII.) MIND ERASER / VIII.) SEDATIVES AND A LULLABY /
IX.) CONDOLENCE CARD / X.) A SHORT HISTORY OF THE
WORLD:

Tape two offers more of the same with a "If it's not broken why
fix it?" attitude...Or in this case a "It's fucking wrecked...Can't
fix it" approach. Both tapes are short clocking in at ten minutes
each.Consider this a blessing.Anything over ten minutes could
be considered an overdose and the chances of your survival are
minimal at best.Hope your feeling suicidal cause here we go.
A sample of a song from the 1950's skips like a broken record
and then were off racing at a million miles an hour.Tape two
is much like the first only here it seems even faster somehow.
More samples are utilized here as well making everything seem
a little more chaotic. We go into pounding marching rythms and
war cry screams for a while and then it's back to frenied madness.
There seems to be a little more experimentation with synth samples
and vocal effects here as well...Slight touches of reverb and delay here
and there and stuff like that. One sample repeats for a while and pretty
much sums up what GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD sounds like better than
I ever could by simply saying "He's out of his fucking mind." Side D begins
like a nightmare reflection of side C...All is still a blistering rush of adrenaline
and rage.Drums are played in reverse,Samples are more desperate and hopeless
and all sounds fucking wonderful. The final track is my favorite here.It is much
slower and features haunting synths and huge percussions. This one here could
almost be considered Death Industrial.Explosions feel the sky and all is despondent.
And on that note we end...Hopelessly wrecked and craving more.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR FANS OF FUCKED UP GLITCHED OUT GRIND
AND NOISE.FOR FANS OF PISS JUNKIE/AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED/APT 213/

SIDE A.)

I.) (UNTITLED) COLD SHOTS SIDE I:
Low roaring begins in the midst of trees in the deep of nowhere.
A desolate place not to be found on a map of any sort.Such a place
must be remembered...A place where the atmosphere itself breaths
deep into the soul and stays with you like a lucid and vivid dream.
Surreal and real all at once. This is dark ambience that digs within,
Carves out a place to dwell and thrive and births a million emotions
deep within the host...The winds rush through the trees taking the leaves
to flight.Low ambience flows through your thoughts like the chilly autumn
breeze through your clothes and hair...It is the season of autumn that Cold
Shots concerns itself with. These hazy passages are not only done in tribute
of the time of Autumn but to invoke it for the listener no matter what time
of year it may be.Just close your eyes and listen now.Remember that elegant
scent of decay.the winds clear the air only then to bring about the rain for a
deeper cleansing. The sounds of static rush through the air like dead and rustling
leaves.Rain drops on every leaf as each one falls heavy to the ground. The tempo
picks up like a racing heart beat until it comes to a halt. This is that serious moment
when your breath stops out of fear....A fear that sets in when unknown creatures are
heard shambling through the dead leaves on a dark night...Out of site but not out of
mind. The emotions invoked and provoked here are much like what you feel when you
know you are being watched...You turn around and around til branches crack and pull
your focus on a certain direction. You can sense something creeping closer more as more
dead twigs crack and pop beneath a heavy blanket of  Fall leaves...Now you are greeted
with only your own imagination playing tricks on you.Millions of images are conjured up
while engaged in this album...And this is an album that engages the listener as well as allows
and makes them drift in an almost trance like state.Music to accompany a time when you are
lost and worried as all looks the same out here. All is dead or dying but at the same time that
very stillness...The quiet of death and slow decay is immense and beautiful...Yes beautiful death
and it's many wonderous colours paint the canvas that makes up this portrait of peace and rot.
The sound pics up and you catch your mind racing through the rain and through the countless,
winding  Autumn trees. You begin to become enthralled in what sounds like almost tribal noise.
Every little intricate layer and texture applied to create sounds of long screeching like screams from
the heart of the forest distorted in the winds and freezing rain.Cold Shots sets your surroundings and
transports you to a whole new environment. There is so much going on that it would be a shame to miss
even a second.Experimentation with multiple effects and tones really pays off in these dark and moody
soundscapes.Everything is mixed and blended seemlesly and with an excellent sense of timing as well
as a great display in overall execution.Truly a pleasure to review. It is often said that books can be windows
to other worlds...The same can be said for Cold Shots.

SIDE B.)

II.) (UNTITLED) COLD SHOTS SIDE II:
Water circles the drain in a gutter on a cold city street.A thunderstorm approaches and it
almost sounds like a giant wood wheel is turning like that of an abandoned windmill.
The sounds of creaking dry wood on a turniquet. You can hear the sounds of low breathing
as the music itself once again starts becoming alive...Moaning with long howls as the lightning
peirces the sky and echoes across the land. You can feel the vibrations in your chest as all the world
around you is awakening from an ancient primal slumber. For some moments it almost sounds like
the foot falls of ancient Apache dancers. With every foot they pound to the ground with the steady beat
of the drum as they pray and dance.Like an ancient ceremony that hynotizes you with singing and a loud
gathering of noise.Suddenly all grows silent...Sounds unheard in ancient times begin. The roots are digging
in the ground like mechanic drills far too large for a single man to control.Throbbing and pulsating synths
weave through the air as the woods communicate with the speech of birds and other animals carried with the
wind.It truly takes a gift to capture what SHARPWAIST and MARABOU STORK have managed to do together.
As far as collaborations go this is top notch stuff...We now hear the sounds of slow playing cellos on a rainy day.
They reverberate and hang in the air as if played in an empty lighthouse or stone structure.Warm and natural
ambience. It is almost as if the music forms a soft glowing light that slowly pass across the walls like passing
headlights through the window. The sad but comforting cellos play on capturing you like a siren in it's sad song.
These songs and passages pull and tug at the strings of your mind...Taking you deeper in as time melts away.

THIS TRULY TRANSPORTS YOU TO ANOTHER WORLD.
INSTANT PEACE AND TRANQUILITY WITH HINTS OF
DANGER AND ADVENTURE:
