INDUSTRIAL/DARK AMBIENT/DARK WAVE
COMES ON A CLEAR CASSETTE IN A
PLASTIC CASE WITH INSERT AND DIGITAL
TRACKS I-V ORIGINALLY WRITTEN BY:
MEKANIK KOMMANDO IN 1981.INTERPRETED
BY: DISTEL IN 2012 FOR A PERFORMANCE AT THE
FIRST IN A SERIES OF FOUR ULTRA2012 NIGHTS.
I.) JAPANESE EYES:
Sounds of finger picking on a distorted japanese instrument
travel back and forth from ear to ear through my head phones.
These sounds are accompanied by low steady humming...almost
to the point of throbbing in my mind. This throbbing seems to rise
as a man's chanting vocals begin as if summoning his inner-most energy.
This dark wave of surreal sound then transcends and becomes well controlled
static noise...At first calm like a waterfall and then a girls voice in japanese speaks
for a swift moment and the noise dances into a well paced tempo.Bass builds up and
I hear her voice again and again. All together now the words "Japanese Eyes" fly like
retracting wings thrusting to a slow halt.We finish with steaming pumps of industrial
machinery as the next track readies to begin.
Dark wave industrial beats begin this journey through DISTEL's interpretation of
the awe inspiring works of MEKANIK KOMMANDO...Plunging into this dark world
makes you imagine and feel things that you may never experience normally. This gives
you that inside feeling...of the internal mechanisms of nature. And insight of nature of
the very Earth that we all must live upon.To everything there is a cycle.Spoken almost
otherworldly words now weave through this industrial landscape of dark ambience like
vines and electrical cords giving you it's true meaning.Or to sum it up shortly this is the
tale of the never ending cycle of plants, animals and humans consuming one another as
a means of survival.
This particular track has a total 90's Gothic Electro/Dark Electro
thing going on.This sounds like a time when bands like AND ONE
and DO OR DIE (AKA Dance or Die) ruled the underground club
scene with bony fingers on cold synth keys. This one makes you sway
to the hymns as you lose yourself in the industrial beats. At first so sorrowful
then they pull you in like beckoning fingers...Only then to be unforgiving and
dreadful with its sharp tongued vocals. His words of truth ring on throughout
the air and linger in your mind long after...So this really is one that you will
"Replay" over and over.
Snare drums crack like whips charged with electricity.
Spooky synth rythms that sound like they could be on
a Super Nintendo game...Castlevania type of stuff.The
vocals are shouted from the distance and almost lost
in the background among waves of static and hard
electronic drum beats.Haunting choir-like synths
spread out like tiny ghosts filling the air with illusion
and mischief...A vortex of souls singing on the dance
floor.I wouldn't exactly call this catchy but there is a
beat and I can imagine this playing in a club for dark
and/or underground culture for sure.
V.) WHITE SOLDIER:
Rythms of static and warped synths.Spoken word vocals
in a deep and "Goth" sort of tone are heard rising and
echoing.Steady beats with thick snares march on along
with sinister and slow moving synth ambience. The track
sounds like it inhales and exhales in slow breaths.Heavier
snares hit from time to time keeping things interesting and
adding movement.Again I can picture this playing in the
background in a club with dim lights, Glowing drinks and
dark minded people...Downer jams for black souls.
Buzzing static like swarming flies and moody shambling
synth ambience.Onde is pretty much an outro track and
it does just what it is meant to do...Bring everything winding
down until it comes to a halt and closes the album. This is the
sort of track that leaves you pondering in deep thought about
everything and nothing at the same time. This is the shortest
track on the album...Being about half as long as the rest...So
this gives you a few brief moments and then vanishes as if it
A THROWBACK TO A TIME WHEN DARK ELECTRO BANDS
RULED THE UNDERGROUND CLUB SCENE.AND DONE IN
A WAY THAT YOU'D NEVER GUESS THIS WAS MADE SO RECENTLY:
